Winter Walking (Sun 25)

Sitting here in the apartment tonight with sore feet after a record day tramping the sidewalks. 28,500 steps!

The day started with a self-guided walking tour of the Greenwich village neighbourhood for Michael and me. Popped in to Starbucks for coffee first and some preliminary celebrity surveillance. A beautiful sunny crisp winter's morning and a highlight was Washington Square (Merryn remembering studying the Henry James novel of the same name for HSC). Children throwing snowballs, squirrels frisking in the trees and a couple of people setting up a grand piano in the square! We saw the outside of the apartment block used in "Friends" and the house for "The Cosby Show" then back to the apartment to collect the girls for some more walking.

As we crossed the street downstairs we had our first celebrity success walking past Hugh Jackman walking his celebrity pooches, one with rubber balloon booties for the snow and puddles. He popped into a coffee shop and we continued on for the elevated Hi Line walkway garden. The Hi Line is a converted railway line which has been given a new lease on life, some great views of the city, mix with the people and lots more walking.

Next walk was on the red carpet at Madame Tussaud's where our celebrity spotting was much easier because they all stood still...wax will do that for you.

On to Brooklyn Tabernacle for church in this lively, culturally diverse congregation with amazing voices. Their services are usually accompanied by an amazing 280 voice choir but today's service was led by the visiting band "Big Daddy Weave".

Next walk was back over the Brooklyn Bridge, with some more elevated walking, great views of the city as the lights started coming on and surprisingly mild temperatures. (The Mayor of New York is telling us to prepare for blizzards the next two days).

Up the Rockefeller tower for amazing city views by night and then last walk for the day a mere 20 blocks to take the girls to Hillsong New York (we caught the Subway home). Ahhhhh
