BLIZZARD ALERT. It's been the main thing discussed by everyone today. Someone is shutting their shop 5 hrs early. Someone else working in the Eloise shop in the Plaza Hotel was told to pack an overnight bag and will be put up in the hotel. We had a long chat to a Greyhound bus driver whose shifts had been cancelled. No vehicles allowed on the roads from 11pm aside for emergency vehicles including noisy snow ploughs. Big queues at the supermarket. The news is only talking about the impending blizzard and the mayor looks very serious on TV every hour or so. The TV studios seem a little disappointed that it might have been THE record blizzard, but now may even miss the top 10 ever recorded. But with a bit of luck it's still possible?
At the start of the day it was lightly snowing and we walked around a "corner" of Central Park so that Meg could reprise Enchanted movie scenes (which were filmed there). We visited the Plaza Hotel we had previously stayed in courtesy of AMP and then spent the rest of the day shopping around Macy's and doing the Madison Gardens tour. Great salad bar at Macys food court - Meg won $1 for actually finishing hers but Fiona's eyes had been too big for her stomach. Celeb sightings today - zero (sigh...)
By the time we stocked up on food and headed to our cosy apartment, the serious snow had started with the main snow to be overnight. Max today was -3degrees.

What exciting times! pleased you have stocked up on food. Our news has been mentioning the expected blizzard / the worried Mayor / food queues/ being off roads by 11pm etc. Hope you all catch your planes on time.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting a bit of the HB travel weather... it makes for memorable times and builds character... as well as layers of clothing. If you're going to get stuck anywhere, NY would have to be pretty much near the top of my list of places to be stuck in!...
ReplyDeleteI can hear Meg singing.... Let it 'snow', let it 'snow'..... the cold never bothered me anyway....
Ahh..you'll be glad to be back to 36 degrees after all that cold...enjoy it while it lasts... Merryn looks positively glowing in it !!
ReplyDeleteTime to build a snowman?? .. If you don't make it back on time, we know why not...
Hey was the snow in NY also planned into the itinerary?? Lucky folks!! Enjoy the last days and have a safe trip home! Jenny
