Royal bean spilling (Thu 22)

Let's just call him "Reginald" or "Reggie" for short. Today we rendezvoused with our "source" at Kensington Palace under the guise of our last tourist  excursion in England and he gave us the inside running on the Royals. The palace by the way was the official one until 1760 plus or minus and is a couple of parks away from Buckingham Palace. Anyway "Reggie" gave the official talk in the Kings Apartments and afterwards we got talking and Merryn pumped him pretty hard. He explained that Kensington Palace has the formal State area in the middle, with two wings run by the Royal household.

And apparently ...
* For most royals it's their London digs when in town and sometimes their official residence (or postal address), but most live elsewhere. All the royal cousins also get spots plus various others who know the right people. Reggie said its pretty much like a block of flats (with 600 rooms).
* No matter who you are in the pecking order, you pretty much get the next apartment available, and keep it thereafter.
* Despite the fact that Princess Di's flowers were all left at the gold-topped gate, she only stayed there a handful of nights after the divorce, and had never seen the recycled gates at which the crowds came to pay homage.
* "Reggie" also noted that there were only limited piccies of Di with the boys as they normally stayed with Charles - even in the summer hols in which she died.

Hmmmm ... we also enjoyed the scones in the cafe; old dresses from QE2, Princess Margaret and Princess Di; and Queen Vic's great love for her hubby - she wore black for decades after he died.
Flew Norwegian.com (a discount airline) 7.5hrs to New York to stay in Christopher St, Greenwich Village, and went to bed at 5am London time.

Pictures below include Meg dressing up at the Palace; leaving our digs in the Old School House at Bloomsbury; and an interesting juxtaposition of signs at Gatwick airport.
