Sadly Karimiloo didn't sing at Les Mis in the end last night - we'd rather not talk about it! Fiona especially enjoyed Eponine. Michael enjoyed the dark staging and greater focus on the immediacy of the story rather than it just being a platform for singing - however is unsure if he is being overly influenced by a review he read.
Fiona left us in the morning to fly to Denver to hang with Ally who she had met in Uganda. The remaining Andos hit the. Subway and did a few offbeat things to "finish off" New York before flying home. We wandered through another bit of Central Park, saw the Guggenheim Museum, travelled on a cable car from Manhattan to a neighbouring island and back, and wandered Grand Central Station which is well named on all counts. Then we ate at Eatily (which is an interesting collection of Italian produce, cafes and restaurants in the one space. Girls headed back and Michael walked the High Line back.
We felt we have got to know NY much better and feel we have some sense of how it ticks. We met grumpy people but more who were helpful. We saw people buy food for street people as did Fiona and Meg. We walked from the whole 90(?) blocks from Central Park to Battery park at the South over different occasions. We liked the subway and loved the liveliness of the theatre district. Many things ARE just bigger in NY. We enjoyed the relative coziness of Greenwich Village and a failed blizzard was fun ... but of course nothing compares to the high blue skies, green open spaces, the clean streets, colourful money, and friends of laidback Oz.
