Bloomsbury Treasure (Wed 21)

We decided to support the local economy and purchased a Treasury Trail online for the Bloomsbury area (£7) and wandered the suburb staring at iphone and iPad. It involved a treasure map and a path of clues. At each clue point we had to solve a puzzle and cross off a name from the map (pictured) to be left with a final location of other treasure. We started at Russell Square, but look as we might we saw no Russells?

We completed two thirds before we reached Charles Dickens' house which we inevitably toured given Merryn's love for bite-sized people driven history. Apparently he was a rock star in his day - yes really, the exhibit said so - similar adulation and even reading his stories to paying groups of 3000! Michael downloaded Pickwick Papers (free, as the old codger has apparently been dead for a bit) and has had a few Pickwickian chuckles. He is much more likely to complete this than previous attempts at Great Expectations. We then had fish (or pasty) and chips and mushy peas because it's England.

The night closed with Matilda the Musical after various shopping/British Museum activities with attendance split on fairly traditional lines. Musical was excellent and Andos of all stripes have declared it the best musical they have seen in an jolly long time. Excellent sets and choreography plus a Roald Dahl story to boot. Matilda's dad sings a song - "the bigger the telly, the smarter then man" - solid gold T-shirt material.

  1. No Russell's to be found at Russell Square!?! What!?! Oh, that's because we were too far away for you to see, being that we were in Wellington New Zealand!! Enjoying glorious weather, BTW. Sunny, and for our new friends in NZ (Beth was visiting with Isaiah and his sister (sorry can't spell her name- but Meg you might have heard Beth talking about them) they thought that they were experiencing a HEAT WAVE, we tried not to laugh too loud, didn't want to appear rude (lol). We are back in the land of OZ, and now it's raining and cold. See you soon xxx Safe trip home
